“SECOND LIFE” publication is a book designed to educate the public about former monuments existence. The client
for this book is the National Heritage Board. The three buildings featured in the book are Former Supreme Court,
Former Parliament House and Former Empress Building.
“SECOND LIFE” represents giving former monuments a second usage instead of demolishing them. The buildings have a
much more cleaner structure now as compared to the past since they were renovated, with the building still being there. Hence,
I designed the book in a way that it feels clean yet there’s a hint of old in there. With clean typography and cover being used,
the book became a more modern book. The main point of the layout is the single line split for divider pages and headers, making
a comparison from the first to the second life. Lastly, the reason why the words in the cover page are diecut is because the
former monuments were designed for a different purpose now, mostly opened for galleries or exhibitions. Hence, I feel that
having diecuts can represent how people can view the building as a beautiful place for learning if they look inside intead of
just looking from the streets.
